Acolyte: Acolytes are children, youth or adults who assist the clergy during worship services doing things like: lighting candles, preparing the altar with the bread and wine and ringing the sanctus bells.
Altar Guild: A quiet and behind the scenes ministry, Altar Guild members prepare the altar for each Eucharist as well as special services for weddings, funerals and baptisms. They also make sure that the linens are cleaned each week. It includes setting the table for Eucharist, marking the Bible readings, marking the correct psalm in the prayer book, cleaning up after the services, laundering linens and ordering the bread and wine. Once a hymn board is available, it will also include preparing the hymn board.
Brigit's Bounty: Our use of the land in Frederick is helping others through a community garden ministry. See our Brigit's Bounty page for more information.
Chalice Minister: Chalice Ministers participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion by administering the cup of wine during the Eucharist. To be a Chalice Minister one must be a confirmed Episcopalian and meet with one of the clergy for a short training. Serving the community in this way can be a very meaningful experience.
Coffee Hour Host: Coffee Hour hosts arrive 10-15 minutes early to get the coffee pot ready to go and plugged in during the service, puts out coffee cups, and tea bags. On a typical Sunday, you would also provide snacks and fruit for the congregation after the service. The coffee hour host also stays to load the dishwasher and clean up afterwards. Find instructions here.
Eucharistic Visitor: Takes communion to members of the congregation who are unable to attend Sunday morning worship. There will be training classes offered through-out the diocese for this ministry. Safe Guarding God's People training is also required.
Godly Play Teachers: Godly Play Teachers are adults who are willing to attend the Godly Play training and the Safe Guarding God's Children training. Your help in this very important ministry will support the children of the community as they grow in the knowledge and love of God.
Greeter/Usher: Greeters and Ushers welcome people to the worship service, hand out bulletins, pass out the prayers of the people handouts, take up the bread and wine and also take up the collection.
Healing Prayer Team: The members of the healing prayer team offer healing prayer on Sundays during communion to anyone who is interested.
King Soopers Gift Card Program: If you shop at King Soopers or buy fuel there, St. Brigit can receive 5% of your purchases at no cost to you. Just make your purchases using one of our reloadable gift cards. Details here.
Lector: Lectors read the Old and New Testament lessons and lead the congregation in saying the psalm from the red Book of Common Prayer. The Liturgical Calendar is online here and we are using the Revised Common Lectionary as of Lent, 2007.
Welcoming Committee: A group of members who follow up with new comers to the community. This includes taking bread to newcomers, providing a brochure that describes our community of faith, serving as "mentors" to our newest members, and/or helping to host a newcomers brunch.
